2015 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

THE REGION: Dry Creek Valley
Located in the heart of Sonoma, the Dry Creek Valley is characterized by warm days, cool
nights and a long, balanced growing season. In the evening, cool maritime influences enter
from the southern portion of the valley, where the Dry Creek flows into the Russian River. One
of the most distinguished regions for California Zinfandel, Dry Creek Valley terroir produces
wines that are refined in their structure, body and complexity.
Vintage 2015 was the third in a string of warm, dry and early growing seasons. An early year in
general led to very ripe grapes in the Dry Creek Valley, with small berries with concentrated
flavor of exceptional quality. Harvest began at the end of August on our warmest vineyards
and concluded in mid-September well before the appearance of late season rains. We selected
82% of this Zinfandel from estate vineyards, including Stefani Vineyard (74%) and Chiotti
Vineyard (7%), with the balance sourced through longstanding grower relationships.
• Fermented in rotary and cone-sweep tanks at a maximum temperature of 92°F to
encourage jammy notes in the finished wine, with a few small lots fermented in 7- and
10-ton open top fermenters.  
• Drained and pressed just short of dryness to capture the all the fruit flavors and
aromas without excessive tannin.
• Co-fermented with a small amount of Petite Sirah for added structure and dark fruit
• This wine was 100% barrel aged for an average of six months in a mix of new and
neutral oak. Predominantly American aged, 14% of the blend was aged in new
American oak and 2% in new French oak for a bit of structure and complexity.
